I have a basic HP ML110 G6 server
1x Intel® Pentium® processor G6950 (2.80GHz, 73W, 3MB, 1066)
1x 2GB (1x2GB) PC3-10600E unbuffered DDR3 ECC
1x 250 GB NHP SATA 7200 rpm Drive (Base Model)
According to spec sheet:
1x HP Embedded Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller (RAID 0/1/10) (4 ports for HDD) - It seems i can only do RAID 0/1/10, not sure if it can do other levels.
I'm planing on purchasing 4x 2TB SATA HDD, (Please advise what would be the best option for consumer level drives as enterprise level drives are very expensive)
I would like to use the 250GB SATA HDD as the OS drive, standalone, and add the other 4x 2TB SATA HDD in RAID 10, i would have preferred RAID 5 if possible.
Operating system i'm planning to use is Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1.
I've done some light reading regarding TLER and consumer drives dropping out of RAID configs.
Apparently there some consumer drives that would work fine, but i'm not sure which ones, hence the reason i'm asking the experts on Toms Hardware.
Performance is not a major concern. Main objective is to have storage system for media files, accessable over network.
I'm open to alternate ideas and recommendations.
So any advice regarding hard drives, RAID levels, and operating system would be appreciated.
Thanks
